Red Repurposed Cabinet Door Chalkboard

Last week I mentioned that I had been in a red and black mood the week before.

This is the last project that I completed that week that I wanted to share with you.

It is a cabinet door that I picked up at a Habitat Restore.
It was just an unfinished wood door frame with a hole for a knob.

It did not have an insert where the chalkboard is or a knob.

I painted the cabinet door frame with a golden yellow and then red paint.
I distressed it a little allowing the yellow to peek out in places.

I cut a thin board to fit the inside of the door frame.
I painted it with chalkboard paint and secured it onto the frame.

Then I added a rustic black metal knob.

It seemed that each project I worked on that week had a similar theme.
They were all red or black and each one of them are pieces that I could see in a cafe.

See what I mean?

a headboard repurposed into a bon appetit sign,

and lastly, a cabinet door repurposed into a chalkboard sign
that could be used as a menu or special of the day board.

I know this post doesn't have anything to do with spring,
which seems to be on everyones mind,
but I did want to share that last repurpose project with you.

Now I'll be getting back to spring stuff too.
I've got some ideas floating around in my head for Easter decor for our cabin.

How's your Easter decorating coming along?
Do you like to decorate with the traditional pastel colors
or do you tend to try to match your home decor colors?

I like decorating both ways, but this year I'm going to stay neutral with earthy tones.
Greens, creams, and browns. Kindof a rustic, natural Easter theme.

'til next time,

  2. Love that cabinet idea. I just moved and wanted to paint the cabinets. Now I'll attempt to do at least the far bottom cabinets with chalkboard paint so my toddler can draw while I cook.

  3. What a good idea to paint your bottom cabinets with chalkboard paint! Micah will have a ball with them. Congrats on the new apartment.

  5. It doesn't show or explain why you "...cut a thin board to fit inside the door frame". What type of thin board? On the back of the door? I don't see the board to understand why. Thanks...
